St.
John's in a Nutshell |
| St. John's Lutheran Church is part of the Evangelical
Lutheran Church in America
(ELCA). The ELCA is a nationwide church with 5.1 million
members in 10,766 congregations. The ELCA is broken into 65
regional synods. St. John's is located in the
Upstate New York Synod which covers all of New York
State except for New York City. There are 195 congregations
in our synod with a total of 86 thousand members.
Worship services at St. John's are 8:30 and 10:30 every
Sunday. The 8:30 service uses the Lutheran Book of Worship
and includes traditional hymns. The 10:30 service blends
traditional and contemporary music styles. There is a
children's sermon and a staffed nursery at the 10:30
service. Sunday School meets at 9:30 during the school year.
There are classes for all ages including adults. During the
summer months, the 8:30 service meets in the Outdoor Chapel.
Also during the summer, St. John's joins with two other
local Lutheran Churches to hold Communion services in
Farmington Park on Wednesday evenings at 7:15.

Worship |
| St. John's strives to have worship services that are
inspiring, challenging, and filled with the love of Christ.
St. John's worship is Bible based. The sermon and music
at all services are based on the Bible readings for that
service. Additionally, most parts of the service are
biblical quotes.
St. John's worship is liturgical, Liturgical means
"work of the people." We seek to have all the congregation
be active participants in singing, responsive reading,
prayer, and Holy Communion. There are also many tasks people
from the congregation perform in worship such as: greeting
people, ushering, reading Bible lessons, and assisting with
Communion. Anyone who is interested can sign up to
participate in the service.

Theology |
| We believe that we are saved by God’s grace through
faith. There is nothing we can do to get to heaven on our
own.
We believe that God loves us and forgives us. Because we
are loved and forgiven by God, we can love and forgive each
other.
We believe that doing good works is our natural response
to the love God has for us.
We believe that the Body of Christ is the Church. the
Church is the people. All believers are called to share
their faith in the world and to encourage others to faith.
